I am not surprised that Halong Bay is one of the seven wonders of the new world, it is truly a unique place and my wife and I loved it, We did the three day two night cruise with Indochina Legend Travel on board the VICTORY STAR which was great. Nice boat , great crew and great food, actually too much food at times. About 40 people on board of many different nationalities and we had a good social time together. It is just terrific cruising past all the hundred of Islands taking in nature at her best and learning a little of the history of the place.About 300 people live there on the water in their floating homes and survive completely on fishing. The kids have their school there on the water too and we were told that the children swim before they walk. Must be a very peacefull life style. We were taken to the village by smaller boats then put into smaller boats again and rowed around the village to see the residents carrying on their daily lifestyle. We were later taken to a absolutely stunning cave complex which had three different chambers which were huge and very beautifull. I believe it is called the Surprise Cave and I can imagine the surprise when it was discovered by French Soldiers in the early 1900s. Another area we went by small boat was through a opening between two islands Called HEAVENS GATE which took us into a very shelted bay and I can imagine thinking it was heaven in there. There are monkeys there but we were not lucky enough to see any that day but we were very lucky to see five black long tailed Squirrels which are apparently very rare. Those that wanted to were able to go Kayaking with a guide which we did with a lovely young Indian couple. That was a real treat as we were able to row through some small caves but the last one we were to attempt was too dangerous as the tide was rising quickly. Very Very enjoyable like being in another world. It was soo peacefull sleeping on the Victory Star after a hearty meal and a bit of squid fishing of the back. Anyone who goes to Vietnam for a holiday has to do a Halong Bay Cruise and do the two nights as the majority of people only do one night and quite a few said they wish they were on for another night and able to do the Kayaking the next day. Highly reccommended
